Kenosha shooting suspect arrested after he is nabbed by two K9's in a dirt field
Kenosha, WI - A man accused of firing a round into a Kenosha County home Sunday night is in custody after a vehicle and foot chase Tuesday.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Racine County Sheriff’s office arrested 29-year-old Jake Wenzel Tuesday. The arrest came after an anonymous tip led deputies to a motel in Union Grove.
When deputies initiated a traffic stop, a person with Wenzel exited the vehicle. Wenzel then drove away, leading to a pursuit that ended when he crashed into a tree and fled on foot.
He was taken into custody shortly after with the help of two K9 teams.
The search for Wenzel began late Sunday after a woman reported that Wenzel had fired a round into her home near 268th Avenue in Trevor, Kenosha.
Investigators said Wenzel and another person had an altercation earlier that night. The person returned home, and Wenzel arrived shortly after, armed with a handgun.
After encountering the person's sister, who told him to leave, Wenzel fired one round at the home before driving off, according to the sheriff's office.
Early Monday morning, investigators found Wenzel’s abandoned truck in the Center Lake Woods subdivision, prompting a manhunt where authorities described Wenzel as "armed and dangerous."
"Our deputies and detectives are using every available resource to locate Jake Wenzel and bring him into custody," Sheriff David Zoerner said in a statement during the search. "Acts of violence like this will never be tolerated in Kenosha County."
