Glendale police officer rescue dog stuck in canal
Glendale, AZ - A pup is back on dry land, thanks to the help of the Glendale police officers.
On Tuesday, Glendale PD shared a dramatic video of an officer jumping into a canal to save a dog that was stuck in the water.
The situation began around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, along the canal near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road. That’s when a 911 caller reported a dog in the canal that was struggling to get out.
The video posted to social media then shows officers arriving on the scene. Bodycam from one officer shows him approaching his colleague, who is taking off his gear.
“Cop of the year right here,” the officer with the body cam says.
Meanwhile, bystanders are seen getting emotional, calling for the stranded pup, and others follow it down the canal from the side. The body cam video then shows the small white dog quickly floating down the canal in the distance.
“I’ll swim to her, but just hold it with that pole,” the officer says, and without hesitation, jumps in and swims across the canal toward the pup.
After the rescue, the officer and pup took a photo, soaking wet, on dry land. Glendale police said the dog was reunited with its thankful owner.
