Two hurt after distracted driver runs red light, slams police cruiser

East Lampeter Township, PA - A distracted driver crashed into a police cruiser in Lancaster County, sending two people to the hospital, according to the East Lampeter Township Police Department.
The wreck happened on Old Philadelphia Pike at the exit ramp of Route 30 eastbound in East Lampeter Township on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Police said an on-duty officer who was driving a marked police cruiser had exited Route 30 and was attempting to turn left onto Old Philadelphia Pike with a steady green light.
The driver of a Mercedes-Benz sedan was traveling west on Old Philadelphia Pike and failed to stop for a steady red light at the intersection before crashing into the cruiser, according to police.
Investigators said the Mercedes-Benz driver was distracted while he was cleaning his glasses. He was not injured in the crash.
The officer driving the cruiser and an individual who was riding in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries and were transported to Lancaster General Hospital, according to police.
