Two arrested in wild chase in Chester County

Chester County, SC - Two people have been arrested following a wild pursuit through Chester County on Monday.
According to the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Dawson Gainey and Hayleigh Holland were taken into custody after a traffic stop escalated into a chase.
Deputies say the incident began around 3:23 p.m. on Highway 9, between Richburg and Chester, when they attempted to pull over a vehicle driving westbound. Gainey reportedly failed to stop for the deputies’ blue lights.
The chase continued through a busy intersection at Highway 9 and the J.A. Cochran Bypass, where deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device. Despite having one tire blown, Gainey continued driving through downtown Chester.
The pursuit ended near the bypass onto Highway 9-Pinckney Road, where deputies took Gainey and his passenger, Holland, into custody.
Gainey has been charged with driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights, third-offense possession of fentanyl, third-offense possession of methamphetamine, and an active Lancaster County warrant for grand larceny and violation of a court order.
Holland faces charges of third-offense possession of fentanyl and third-offense possession of methamphetamine.
Both were transported to the Chester County Detention Center.
