Juvenile injured by an LAPD K9 when the suspect hides after a foot pursuit

Los Angeles, CA - On November 18, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Harbor Area uniformed Gang Enforcement Detail (GED) officers were conducting extra patrol in the area of Belle Porte Avenue and Anaheim Street. They observed the 16-year-old Subject with a hard L-shaped object in his waistband, which the officers believed was a gun.
When the officers attempted to contact the Subject, he fled, prompting a foot pursuit. The officers set up a perimeter, and Metropolitan (METRO) K9 officers were requested to respond and conduct a search.
Before conducting their search, several K9 announcements were made via a Public Address (PA) system, directing the Subject to surrender. The Subject failed to comply.
A K9 search commenced, and the K9 located the Subject adjacent to a detached garage, where a K9 contact occurred. The Subject was taken into custody.
The Subject sustained a wound to his leg.
Officers requested a rescue ambulance, which transported the Subject to a local hospital, where he was treated and admitted for injuries sustained during the K9 contact.
The Subject was issued a citation for 302 WIC/148(a)(1) PC – Resist/Delay/ Obstruct Arrest.
No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this occurrence.
