Pulling over on the side of the road would've been a lot smoother for a man who decided to run from officers in central Florida.

On Tuesday, deputies tried to make a traffic stop on a car with two people inside. According to the Port Orange Police Department, the driver decided to keep going.

Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit and placed stop sticks in the road to help stop the fleeing car.

Video shared by police showed the fleeing driver pull into the backyard of a home. That's where the two occupants jumped out and ran.

Police captured the female passenger, identified as 31-year-old Kaitlyn McCartney.

A K-9 team from the Edgewater Police Department joined the search for the driver, 33-year-old Jonathan Kiser. It took two hours to find him.

Police said Kiser climbed up a tree in an effort to escape, but the K9 team found him. As officers approached him with their guns drawn, Kiser fell out of the tree. K9 Drako kept him from running far until police could get him in handcuffs.

Kiser faces multiple charges including fleeing, several counts of resisting an officer without violence, leaving the scene of a crash with damage, and others. McCartney faces charges of resisting without violence and possession of paraphernalia.
