-----
Atlanta, GA - On 3/23/26, Sgt. Houston, with the APD Homicide Unit, was canvassing the area of 595 Piedmont Ave. for a critical missing person. During the canvass, she heard a woman screaming, “My baby, my baby!” Sgt. Houston immediately exited her patrol vehicle and ran to assist. The mother’s 3‑year‑old child was not breathing and losing consciousness.
Sgt. Houston began rendering lifesaving aid without delay, performing CPR and requesting Grady EMS. Observing signs the child was choking, she continued compressions, turned the child on his side, and attempted to clear his airway.
After several minutes, the child became alert and began breathing as Grady EMS arrived. He was transported to the hospital for further treatment. The mother of the child thanked Sgt. Houston for her life-saving efforts.
The Atlanta Police Department is also grateful to Sgt. Houston, who is also a mother was nearby during this critical moment. Her quick response and decisive actions saved the child’s life.
