Tumwater, WA - A 19-time convicted felon with an active escape warrant is back in custody after a police pursuit that stretched from Tenino to Tumwater.

According to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, the incident began when officers with the Olympia Police Department were dispatched to an auto theft in progress on the city’s west side. Investigators say an unknown suspect stole a Honda Civic and fled the area, prompting deputies and officers to begin searching.

A short time later, a Tenino police officer spotted the stolen vehicle. When the driver refused to pull over, a pursuit was initiated, heading north toward Tumwater.

Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle using grappler devices, but those efforts were unsuccessful. Spike strips were later deployed, slowing the car. The Sheriff's Office said the suspect briefly pulled over before fleeing again.

The chase came to an end when a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy performed a successful PIT maneuver. Deputies then removed the suspect from the vehicle to prevent another escape, especially as the pursuit neared more densely populated areas.

Officials say the suspect had an active escape warrant related to an assault case. He also has an extensive criminal history, including 19 felony convictions for crimes such as burglary, robbery, assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and attempting to elude law enforcement, along with multiple misdemeanor convictions.

The suspect was booked into jail on new charges, including auto theft, attempting to elude, DUI, and driving on a suspended license.
