Kodiak, AK - A harrowing rescue attempt involving an Alaska State Trooper, a teenager, a surfboard and an icy lake was caught on camera.

Alaska State Troopers video shows the incident occurred on April 19 in the city of Kodiak, which is located on Kodiak Island, roughly 410 miles south of Anchorage.

According to law enforcement, the teen, a native of Kodiak, fell through the ice on Island Lake. Authorities did not indicate why the teen was out on the ice.

Responding trooper Anthony Will did not hesitate, however, using a surfboard from a nearby resident to cross the unstable ice and pull the teen, who was described as “hypothermic,” onto the board.

And when the juvenile slipped off the board and fell into the water, Trooper Will was right there again to pull him back up.

Another first responder, Sgt. Nathan Walsh, assisted by throwing a tow strap towards Trooper Will and the teen. The strap was secured to the board and both the teen and trooper were pulled to shore, authorities said.

The teen was then brought safely to waiting medical care. He could be heard profusely thanking the emergency crews who rescued him.
