Body camera footage captures the moment a house exploded, injuring firefighters and police officers
São Paulo, BR - A police officer's body camera recorded the moment a house exploded in Vila Santo Antônio, North Zone of São Paulo, during an incident in the early hours of Monday (8). At least six officers participated in the action, and three PMs remain hospitalized in serious condition at Hospital das Clínicas.
The incident occurred after the Military Police were called to respond to a report of an alleged suicide attempt, but preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion may have been intentionally caused to harm the officers responding to the incident.
Three firefighters and three police officers appear in the images and try to convince the homeowner to let them in, but she seems nervous and asks the officers to leave.
Minutes later, after much discussion between the parties, the firefighters begin the process of breaking into the house. "Go away, for God's sake," the woman screams.
A firefighter then begins kicking down the door of the house and manages to enter the residence with two other officers. The policeman who was recording the action climbs some stairs and gets a towel to cover the resident of the house, who was naked.
When he turns towards his colleagues to hand them the towel, the explosion happens. At least four firefighters and military police officers were very close to the source of the explosion. Both the officers and the woman start screaming.
Seconds later, the resident appears running up the stairs, seemingly injured, and the police officer who was recording the incident asks for help to detain her.
Moments after the explosion, police officers began a rescue operation and transported the injured to the hospital.
The 26-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and remained hospitalized under police guard. She will face charges of causing an explosion in an inhabited house and attempted murder.
A lieutenant is intubated in the ICU with a head injury and is awaiting the results of a CT scan. Two sergeants from the Fire Department are also in the ICU and are awaiting tests to assess their injuries. The other military personnel are in stable condition or have already been released after treatment.
