Police body cam video showed the scene of the chaotic explosion that happened in Herriman
By: Herriman, UT - A Herriman officer who arrived at the scene to find someone injured, as well as the unmistakable sound of escaping gas.
He ran toward the large stream of flames, and the footage showed a close look at the car inside the building and the fire shooting out.
He ran back to check on the injured woman and held her hand while she was reassured.
“You’re going to be okay. We’re going to take care of you, alright?” Someone said to the woman as she lay on the ground.
Family members of the victims showed up, and they tried to sort out the chaos.
“What happened?” one of them asked the officer.
“As of right now, we don’t know,” he responded. “Basically, as soon as I got here about 10 seconds after they called in, the car was in the building, and some people had dragged them out.”
A person who appeared to have been burned was loaded onto a stretcher.
“This is the daughter,” the officer said to a medic.
“I’m right here,” she said to the man on the stretcher. “Oh, baby,” he said back to her.
While all this happened on one side, video from another officer showed firefighters heading to the building.
Then, the explosion happened.
Both officers were looking away from it when it happened, but a viewer's video showed the roof of the building getting blown into the air.
After that, both officers started clearing the area, and one went into nearby businesses.
“Oh my God, I hope everyone’s alright,” a woman said in the video.
Three people were taken to the hospital that night, and the incident is still under investigation.
