Police K9 injured after being dragged by suspect in stolen truck

Oklahoma City, OK - An Oklahoma City Police Department K9 is recovering after being dragged by a suspect driving a stolen vehicle.
Around 8:15 p.m. on June 28, police found a stolen vehicle near Southeast 19th Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Police said the suspect initially got out of the vehicle but jumped back in and fled.
Police K9 Dash sprang into action, "fiercely engaging" the suspect in the driver's seat. The suspect started to drive away, but Dash did not let go.
According to police, the suspect dragged Dash a significant distance before breaking his grip. The suspect drove south on South Santa Fe Avenue and then along railroad tracks next to South Shields Boulevard before the truck got stuck in the gravel.
Police said the suspect ran into a nearby wooded area before being taken into custody. The suspect was seen throwing an object into the tree line, and officers found a small bag of meth.
"Dash's bravery disrupted the getaway, and ended with the suspect in handcuffs and a bag of meth recovered from the scene," Oklahoma City Police Department officials said in a Facebook post.
Dash was taken to a veterinary clinic and treated for road rash on his paws. Police said he's expected to make a full recovery.
