A Mount Diablo hiker fell approximately 100 feet near Devils Pulpit Sunday afternoon, San Ramon Valley Fire District reported.

San Ramon Valley Fire Dispatch received the call at around 2:15 p.m., according to an Instagram post that shows footage of the helicopter rescue. A California Highway Patrol H-32 rescue helicopter was joined by crews from San Ramon Valley Fire, California State Parks, and a REACH air ambulance. At the mountain, an SRVFPD helicopter rescue technician boarded the helicopter.

The crews were able to access the hiker in a difficult-to-access location. They were eventually able to place the injured hiker into a rescue harness, and lower her into a REACH helicopter.

The REACH air ambulance transported the hiker to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where she is currently with the Trauma Services team. She reportedly sustained major injuries.
