Bodycam video shows police officers rescue dog from storm drain
Wall Township, NJ - Newly released bodycam footage shows police officers in Wall Township, New Jersey, stepping in to help rescue a small dog that had fallen into a storm drain.
Police said Ptl. Jerry Baker, Ptl. Dan Grothues, Ptl. Josh Wheeler and Lt. Eric Jennings responded to the scene after a resident reported that their dog, Sandy, had slipped out of her collar during a walk and fallen into a storm drain.
"When they arrived, they found Sandy scared and stuck below ground and her owner just as distraught. With no time to wait for the storm drain grate to be lifted by DPW, the officers quickly improvised," Wall Township Police Department wrote in the social post.
The entire rescue was caught on bodycam, and Sandy could be heard crying out.
According to police, the officers used a lockout tool, which allowed them to hook onto Sandy's collar and pull her to safety.
"Thanks to their quick thinking and compassion, Sandy was safely reunited with her very grateful owner without injury," the Wall Township Police Department shared.
