A 21-year-old man from the City of North Bay is facing multiple charges after attempting to flee from police on two separate occasions in the Town of Georgina, according to York police.
On July 10, cops spotted a red Nissan Qashqai travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Riverglen Drive. Police were headed in the opposite direction, turned around, and gave chase. At this point, the police say the suspect eluded them by speeding away.
On July 18, Georgina officers saw the suspect vehicle at a Georgina residence in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Boyers Road.
The Qashqai fled police and was observed running multiple red lights and was seen driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic, according to a police statement.
When the vehicle entered Highway 404 police abandoned the street-level pursuit. The force’s Air2 helicopter took over tracking the suspect for safety reasons, said York police.
The Qashqai exited the highway at Highway 7 in Richmond Hill, where police on the ground were able to stop the vehicle by using a tire deflation device.
Despite officers successfully deploying a spike strip, the vehicle continued travelling on all four rims into the Town of Aurora.
