the story of Iron ore coal and limestone...to make steel - and loads of it.. Britain needs millions of tons per year.. this is that story. Always interested in the coal into coke process.. apparently they remove (for other uses) all the tar, naphthalene, benzol and other volatile substances, burn the bollox out of what's left and it turns into solid carbon (or very close) which is just right for steel production, apparently one ton of ore needs one ton of coke. Seeing it at night was an amazing site.
