Bodycam captures Oklahoma murder suspect's final moments after El Paso sighting
-----
Tiyah, TX - Bodycam footage shows the final moments before an Oklahoma murder suspect, who had been spotted in El Paso the day before, appears to shoot himself before deputies can arrest him.
The video, which comes courtesy of the Reeves County Sheriff's Office, shows deputies approaching 35-year-old Jeffrey Scott Baker, who had been last seen at an El Paso Dollar General store, now walking along I-20 near Toyah, just outside of Pecos, on Tuesday afternoon.
In the video, you can see Baker sitting on the gravel, inches away from the highway, under a sign that reads: "Obey warning signs, state law."
Deputies yell orders to him, but Baker appears to disobey the orders.
Baker instead removes the backpack from his back and appears to reach for something-- sending the deputies for cover, opening their patrol unit doors and standing-- guns drawn-- behind them.
A deputy can be heard yelling:
He's reaching for something! He's reaching something! Oh, sh*t!
It is at this point that Baker appears to shoot himself, as the next time we see Baker, he appears to have shot himself, as he now lies on his back, still-- his limbs unnaturally stiff.
Later in the video, a deputy appears to check Baker's pulse, telling a Border Patrol agent who stopped by to help, "He has a slight pulse."
After a search, authorities said two loaded guns were found on Baker's person.
Baker, considered armed and dangerous, had been the subject of a manhunt after authorities identified him as a person of interest following the murder of his parents in their home on Sept. 11, in Clayton, Okla.
Just on Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety had reported that Baker had been seen at a Dollar General store on Upper Valley Road in El Paso.
An El Paso couple also reported seeing a man fitting Baker's description approaching a woman as she exited her home.
Authorities said that after his stop in El Paso, Baker stole an SUV and headed East before ultimately meeting his end.
