Casper, WY - An 18-month-old child was rescued by Casper police after an armed standoff on Saturday, April 18.

According to a release from the Casper Police Department, officers responded to a call at around 9:30 p.m. from neighbors who heard a gunshot and yelling at a residence on the 1000 block of St. John Street.

Officers found a man with multiple firearms including an AR-style rifle and handgun refusing to leave the residence. An 18-month-old child was known to be inside at the time, they said.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect over the course of several hours, during which time the subject was seen at the door multiple times while holding the child and gripping the handgun in his waistband. The man reportedly appeared intoxicated and “verbally challenged the officers,” they said, leading them to believe the child was in danger.

A warrant was obtained and the area was surrounded with assistance from the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office. Officers later observed the suspect and child sleeping on the floor inside when they made entry, and they immediately removed the child while taking the suspect into custody.

Multiple firearms were found inside the residence, including one under the sleeping suspect, they said. Dangerous living conditions, including broken glass and drug paraphernalia, were also reported.

The suspect is reported to be Brayden Randolph, 19. He was transported to the Natrona County Detention Center, where he has been booked on multiple charges.
