Prince George’s County, MD - A missing child was found safe after an hours-long search involving more than 20 Prince George’s County Police officers, multiple K-9 teams and a police helicopter, ending when an officer spotted the child hidden in thick brush near a busy highway.
Prince George’s County Police highlighted the recent rescue during a press conference, releasing video that captured the search and the emotional moment officers located the child.
“I got him, I got him, I got him,” an officer can be heard announcing as the search came to an end.
Police Chief George Nader reported that the department received the missing-child call at approximately 5:04 p.m. Officers arrived about 11 minutes later and quickly determined the case involved a critically missing child with a disability.
More than 20 officers were deployed during the search, along with three K-9 officers and the department’s helicopter unit. A missing persons detective coordinated the effort while officers used available technology to help direct search teams.
The search continued for nearly three hours as officers and several police dogs worked to track the child.
Police reported that the K-9s became exhausted during the operation, but their handlers and other officers continued searching. The child was ultimately located within three hours of being reported missing.
The child had traveled about a half-mile from home and was found close to one of the county’s busy highways.
