Holly Hill, FL - A call for service came in on 10/6/2026, at approximately 11:32 a.m. regarding a transient male who was trespassing, causing a scene and destroying property at Winn Dixie in Holly Hill.
Upon arrival, Officer Cox observed the subject, later identified as Charles A. Crowley, acting disorderly and erratic. After refusing multiple orders from Ofc. Cox, the subject grabbed a large metal bar from under his shirt and swung it at Ofc. Cox, striking him on the head.
Ofc. Cox was then able to bring Charles to the ground and with the help of a good samaritan, Ofc. Cox was able to remove the metal bar from the subject.
Both Charles and Officer Cox were then transported to the hospital with minor injuries and Charles was later taken to the branch jail with no bond.
Officers respond to calls without always knowing what awaits them and face unpredictable situations every day—often making split-second decisions that can change lives in an instant. We are thankful that this incident did not end in tragedy.
