Joplin, MO - About 9 a.m. May, 15, 2025 near E 32nd and S Connecticut Ave, SGT Nick Booe observed an oncoming vehicle traveling slower than others causing a traffic issue.

“It appeared that the driver of the vehicle was slumped over at the steering wheel. He notified dispatch and turned his vehicle around and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. When the vehicle continued to roll, he exited his vehicle and ran up to the rolling vehicle. Sgt. Booe observed the driver unconscious and was not responding.”

Still running on foot — now with the car door open — he reached over, putting the car in park, got the driver out and began life-saving CPR measures.

Bodycam: Deputy saw slumped over driver, he ran on foot to stop the car then gave CPR

The male driver was rushed to an area hospital by ambulance. It was found later he suffered a heart attack while driving. He is recovering.

SGT Booe’s actions not only saved the life of the driver of the vehicle, but likely prevented a serious crash.

“The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to recognize Sergeant Nick Booe for this action and for his dedication to serving the citizens of Newton County.”
