Easton, MA - A police officer and two good Samaritans pulled a driver from a burning vehicle early Friday after the person's vehicle crashed into a snow-filled truck in Easton, Massachusetts, officials said.
A three-vehicle crash involving a dump truck occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Route 138.
Easton Patrol Officer Dean Soucie, the first officer to arrive on the scene, found two vehicles engulfed in flames.
Bystanders alerted the officer that a person was trapped inside one of the burning cars.
Body camera video provided by the Easton Police Department showed the chaotic moments when both the officer and the good Samaritans broke the driver's side window and pulled the injured person to safety.
The driver, a 78-year-old Raynham man, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries, although police said they were not believed to be life-threatening.
According to police, an initial investigation determined that a 2013 Ford F-350 traveling southbound on Route 138 struck the back of an unoccupied 1993 Mack dump truck that was disabled and full of snow on the roadside of the southbound lane.
The force of the crash trapped the pickup truck's driver, who was the sole occupant.
A 2024 Toyota Camry then collided with the rear of the pickup truck and immediately caught fire, according to investigators.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota was able to exit the vehicle without injury.
