In Michigan, it's required to move over and slow down if emergency crews are working. Dash camera footage released by the Michigan State Police on Tuesday shows why.

On Dec. 12, troopers blocked off two left lanes on I-75 in Royal Oak while investigating a multi-car crash.

Troopers say a tractor-trailer didn't move over and slid through the crash scene.

Two troopers can be seen jumping over the cement highway barrier right before the truck plows through, hitting multiple MSP vehicles.

The semi and one of the patrol vehicles then slide further down the highway, which appears to be a sheet of ice.

At least one of the patrol vehicles was occupied at the time of the crash. The in-car footage shows the trooper being violently jolted as the semi hits. That trooper can later be heard grunting in pain.

MSP is now reminding drivers it's the law to move over to the next open lane and drop your speed 10 mph below the speed limit when there are stationary emergency vehicles along the road. If you can't move over, slow down and proceed with caution.

This law applies to police, fire crews, ambulances and tow trucks that may be working.

Troopers say the semi driver in the video was arrested for reckless driving. No one was seriously injured.
