Jacksonville, FL - In an emergency, every minute counts. District 3 patrol officers rushed to help save a child locked in a hot minivan in a parking lot near the St. Johns Town Center.

The 16-month-old child’s mother called 911 after she realized she had accidentally left the keys in the car. The engine was off; the windows were rolled up.

Our officers didn’t hesitate to break the car window and save the child. The child showed signs of distress from the heat, but thankfully was okay.

Yes, it was December 5, but it’s also Florida. The outside temperature was about 85 degrees. Even a few minutes in a locked car can be deadly, with temperatures inside skyrocketing into the triple digits. While this was a dangerous situation, we found this was purely an accident, with no criminal wrongdoing.
