Monroe, WA - Three Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies are being credited with saving a 68-year-old man from a burning pickup truck Nov. 13 on Highway 2 near Monroe.
The deputies were responding to a 911 call reporting that a Ford F-150 was ramming the back of an SUV, according to a Facebook post by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they learned the driver of the truck was having a medical emergency behind the wheel.
Deputies used fire extinguishers to slow the spread of the fire that had ignited at the back of the truck, and got the driver out.
Sgt. Houghtaling, a nine-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, along with Master Patrol Deputy Byrd, who has served five years, and Deputy Soule, with two-and-a-half years on the force, were involved in the rescue.
The three men stayed with the driver until crews from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue arrived and took him to a hospital for treatment.
The driver’s current condition was not immediately known.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office commended the deputies for their quick actions.
