Auburn police officers rescued man from window as fire damages home

Auburn, NY - Fire crews responded to a house fire on Perry Street in Auburn around 4 p.m. Wednesday, rescuing one man from the home.
An Auburn police officer and a Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Deputy helped the occupant out of a first-floor window. Both the man and the officer were assessed by Auburn City Ambulance personnel.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, using three hose lines to extinguish the majority of the flames within about 10 minutes. A second alarm was requested after crews arrived. Fire investigators were also called to the scene, and the American Red Cross is assisting the affected occupants.
While crews were operating at the Perry Street fire, a second fire was reported in a kitchen on North Division Street, which was handled quickly by responding companies.
