Chantilly, VA - An intense rescue effort was caught on video in Fairfax County, Virginia. Over the weekend, officers responded to a driver trapped after crashing their car into a pond.
The officers quickly worked together to bring her to safety.
A police department spokesperson said officers and firefighters were called to a pond near Walney Road and Westfields Boulevard in Chantilly around 5 p.m. on Sunday. There was a report that a car had driven into the water and had begun to sink while the driver was trapped inside.
Once they got to the pond, officers jumped into the water and broke the vehicle's window to get access to the driver. Working together with bystanders, rescuers formed a human chain to get the woman out of the car and safely to shore.
It is not clear what led to the crash. Police say the driver was treated for minor injuries. She was the only person in the car at the time.
Body-worn camera video shared by Fairfax County Police shows the fast-moving rescue effort unfolding.
Several officers sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene by fire and rescue personnel.
