Suspect re-arrested after kicking out a Houston County cruiser window and climbed out

Houston County, TX - A Houston County deputy used a Taser to stop a suspect who authorities say attempted to escape after being arrested on a felony warrant.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies went to the 100 block of State Highway 7 West on Thursday, Sept. 3, to serve an arrest warrant.
According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect attempted to flee from law enforcement on foot from a residence. Deputies pursued him, and he was taken into custody following a brief chase.
The suspect was wanted on a local felony warrant for aggravated assault on a public servant.
But authorities say the situation escalated again after the suspect was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
Sheriff Zak Benge said deputies had to use two sets of handcuffs because the suspect is 6 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 260 pounds.
Benge said there was a scuffle as deputies worked to get the suspect handcuffed.
The sheriff said the suspect then managed to slip the handcuffs from behind his back to the front and began attempting to escape.
Deputy Cruz immediately pursued the suspect and deployed her Taser, bringing him back under control, according to Benge.
The suspect was placed in another vehicle and successfully transported to the Houston County Jail.
Benge said the suspect now faces additional charges for attempted escape and destruction of property.
The sheriff described the incident as an example of what deputies encounter while responding to people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
