Desert Hot Springs, CA - On 07/28/26, officers responded to the 9500 block of Santa Cruz Drive after a domestic violence incident was reported. Before officers arrived, the male suspect decided his best plan was to leave the scene on foot.

It didn’t work.

Officers quickly located the suspect and took him into custody. But the excitement didn’t end there.

While secured in the rear of a patrol vehicle, the suspect somehow maneuvered his handcuffs to the front of his body, removed his seat belt, and decided the inside of the patrol car needed a “remodel.” Instead, he caused damage to the vehicle’s interior.

In the end, the extra effort didn’t pay off. Based on the domestic violence allegations and the damage caused to the patrol vehicle while in custody, a judge ordered the suspect held on $250,000 bail.

Sometimes the fastest way to increase your bail is to keep making bad decisions after you’ve already been arrested.
