A Village of Santiago resident arrested for suspension of selling drugs during a traffic stop
The Villages, FL - Charles Scott Straubel, 27, who lives with his parents in the Village of Santiago, was arrested June 5 after he ran a stop sign and was pulled over by an officer with the Lady Lake Police Department. Prior to the traffic stop, his vehicle had been spotted at a house known for “increased drug activity.”
After a K-9 alerted on Straubel’s vehicle, officers found that the convicted felon was carrying a police baton and knives. He also had a locked box which held 90 small yellow plastic baggies. They each contained a substance which tested positive for methamphetamine.
Straubel insisted he was a drug user, but not a seller.
Straubel sat in the Lake County Jail for more than two weeks before his $26,000 bond was posted.
He initially filled out paperwork indicating he is indigent and would require the services of the public defender’s office. However, he has since retained well-known local criminal defense attorney J. Scott Herman.
