Los Angeles Police Injured Man Who Broke Through A Police Skirmish Line During Protest

Los Angeles, CA - On June 14, 2025, at around 6:35 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) uniformed officers, along with multiple other law enforcement agencies, responded to mass protests that were occurring in downtown Los Angeles.
During a crowd control mobile field force operation, LAPD officers established a skirmish line. A suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Jack Kearns, broke through the skirmish line.
An officer assigned to 77th Street Area discharged one round from a 40mm Less-Lethal Launcher (LLL) at Kearns, and a Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) occurred. Kearns was taken into custody without further incident.
Officers requested a rescue ambulance, which transported Kearns to a local hospital. Kearns was admitted for an injury to the back of his head.
