A man is in custody after being shot at by Phoenix police Tuesday evening. The suspect wasn't hit by gunfire, but was taken to the hospital after police used a taser on him, authorities said.

According to a report from Phoenix police, officers were called to a home near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road around 8:30 p.m. for reports that a family member was "acting erratic and was armed with a handgun."

The man, later identified as 37-year-old Antonio Marquez Cuevas, left before the officers arrived. While police were at the home, they heard several gunshots from a nearby convenience store.

At the store, they found a man who had been shot, and he was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Officers then began searching the area of 67th Avenue and Mariposa Street, where they eventually found Cuevas, who matched the descriptions from the original call.

Police said that officers saw Cuevas had a handgun, and two officers shot at him after he refused to drop the weapon. At that point, Cuevas threw his gun at the police and ran from the officers.

Cuevas was quickly arrested after police used a taser on him, and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Police said that Cuevas will be facing multiple charges upon his release.

Cuevas was not hit by gunfire, and no officers were injured in the incident.
