Body cam video shows New Jersey troopers rescue dog from waters of Arthur Kill
Union County, NJ - A small dog is very lucky after New Jersey state troopers rescued him from the water near a marina in Union County.
According to New Jersey State Police, on Sunday, July 6, 2025, around 6:30 p.m., Trooper Michael Buchell and Trooper Shane McClafferty from Carteret Station responded to a report of a distressed dog in the Arthur Kill in Elizabeth.
Police said that when the troopers got to the scene, they found a dog, believed to be about one year old, struggling against the strong tidal current.
McClafferty was able to skillfully position the vessel they were on while Buchell deployed a life ring and rescue blanket to bring the dog aboard safely, police shared.
Police said the dog, whom they nicknamed Oscar the Grouch, showed signs of fatigue and early-stage hypothermia, which prompted the troopers to administer immediate care.
Oscar was transported to Carteret Station, where he was evaluated and found to be in good health, according to police.
