This is the heartwarming moment a couple carried on with their wedding through heavy flooding in Indonesia.

The groom named Nia Quartil married his girlfriend, Fitria Handayani, in the midst of a deluge that hit Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan province on November 13.

Fitria had to be ferried to the altar using a small, wooden boat while a woman held the train of her wedding gown above the flood. The boat even capsized on the aisle, but the bride managed to avoid falling into the water.

The happy couple exchanged vows on a stage, guided by a priest who declared them husband and wife.

The bride’s cousin, Yuni, said: ‘We are grateful that the wedding can be held despite the flood conditions.

‘Even though the area was flooded, it did not dampen the happiness of our family.’

Floods have been plaguing Indonesia throughout November. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has already issued flood alerts for 22 regions in Indonesia, including Kalimantan, for the first half of the month.

Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
