Thai monkey festival returns as tourists finally come back to the country
Monkeys climbing on piles of fruits and vegetables in central Thailand. It’s not due to a mess. It’s actually an annual event called the monkey festival in Lopburi province.
The long-tailed monkeys, known as macaques, feast on two tonnes of fruits and vegetables in Lopburi. That’s the capital city of the province with the same name. Locals say the event is a symbolic way to thank the cute animals for doing their part in drawing in tourists to their town. This year’s festival took place after a two-year halt due to the pandemic.
