US imposes sanctions on 7 Chinese officials
Beijing strongly condemns sanctions imposed by Washington on seven officials in China's Hong Kong Liaison Office. The office also slammed the so-called business advisory issued by president Joe Biden’s administration, that warned US businesses about the risks to their operations in Hong Kong. It said China will not accept what it called American bullying and double standards. The US Treasury Department said the sanctions were imposed over Beijing's crackdown on democracy in Hong Kong. Beijing and Washington have been at odds over Hong Kong since China approved a security law for the city in June last year. The US says the law curtails freedoms in Hong Kong, a claim rejected by China.
