Watch how to make awesome dalgona candy from Netflix hit Squid Game
Footage shows step-by-step instructions of how to make dalgona candy – the hit snack from Netflix show Squid Game.
Players in the blockbuster Korean drama are tasked with cutting out shapes from the cookies in their second heat, with deadly consequences if they break the shape in the middle.
The street snack originated from the country in the 1970s and 1980s but has become popular again after featuring in the show – with fans cooking their own at home and thousands of cafes serving them up to customers.
As seen in the video, firstly sugar is added to a small, hot pan over a gas cooker or stove. It is stirred until it melts and a pinch of baking soda is added.
The thick syrup is then poured onto a cool metal surface and flatted before using cookie cutters to make the outline of shapes in the middle of the biscuit.
To play the game with dalgona candy, also known in South Korea as ppopgi, a needle should be used to try and remove the shape in the middle without it breaking.
Squid Game players are given candies with the outlines of either a circle, triangle, star or an umbrella. Some contestants remove the shape using only the needle, while others come up with their own tricks to succeed.
